(P1) INTERNET:
Internet
is a global wide area network that connect not just computers systems, but
other devices across the world. Internet needs some several high-bandwidth data
‘lines’, it is the internet’s backbone, there is no internet without it. These
‘lines’ are connected to internet hubs and it is used to distribute data to
other locations such as web servers and ISPs.
WWW:
The
World Wide Web (WWW) is a network of online content that is formatted in HTML
and accessed through HTTP. These terms refer to all the HTML pages linked that
can be accessed over the internet. The purpose of existed of the World Wide Web
Consortium (W3C) is to lead the WWW to its potential development and developing
protocols to promote evolution and ensure its interoperability.
HOW
DOES INTERNET OPERATES?
Internet
traffic is divided into parcels of data called ‘packets’. The packets split
apart when u hit “Send” and comeback together when they arrive at their
destination, which is from devices to devices. These packets are converted into
pulses of light to radio signals that travels through a cable to a device
called a router. Meanwhile, the router sends the packets along to their
destination.
But
what if there are a lot of packets moving through a junction? Example: If there
are too many of email sending to a device, your mail will delayed by a second
or two.
SERVERS:
A
server is either a computer, a device or a program that is used and dedicated
to manage networks resources. It is often reffered as dedicated because servers
hardly carry out any other tasks apart from their tasks. Basically in theory,
whenever a computer share some resources with client machines, it is considered
as server. These are the examples of servers:
· Application
server
· Game
server
· Communications
server
· Computing
server
· Database
server
· Fax
server
· Mail
server
· Print
server
· Sound
server
The
purpose of server is to share data and dedicated to share other resources and
distribute work from devices to devices vice versa.
THE
TYPES OF CONNECTIONS:
1. Internet Service Provider – ISP are organizations that provide access to
the internet using dial-up broadband or fiber optic connection
2. Dial-up –
Dial-up connects to a telephone connection in a system of many lines shared by
many users. It is established and maintained for a limited of time duration.
The purpose of dial-up is a dedicated connection which is continuously in
place.
3. Cable – You
go through your local cable company to get internet services by the cable that
brings your TV programming rather than phone lines. This is one another types
of broadband service and it’s relatively quick.
4. Broadband –
Broadband connection delivers some digital information through DSL or cable
lines that provides fast internet connectivity without an interruption to phone
lines.
5. World Wide Web – it is a system that allows users to exchange files and
information through the internet website.
EQUIPMENTS
for internet:
Some
of the common equipment to provide internet services are: Broadband, wireless,
DSL, satellite and fiber-optic internet. Each service comes with different
types of internet equipment to ensure you have a quality connections.
1. Modem –
Modems are an important piece of internet equipment because it connects you to
the internet. If you have DSL or dial-up internet, your modem connects to
telephone lines while cable internet uses “coaxial cable” to access the
internet.
2. Router –
Wireless routers works with a modem as part of a wireless network
infrastructure. Routers take information through the modem and delivers it to
your computer or wireless devices.
3. Ethernet Cable –
A lot of people uses Wi-Fi network to connect, Ethernet cable speeds up your
connection.
4. Satellite Dish –
For those who chose satellite internet, it will need more internet equipment
than those other types of internet connections. The satellite dish will then
connect to its satellite in space which delivers the TV programming and
internet connection.
Worldwide Web consortium (W3C):
It is a major body in ensuring the worldwide web grows in ways
that are accessible and useful in some ways. The mission for full potential by
developing protocols and guidelines to ensure long term web growth. It is also
to ensure industry experts comply with certain core principles and structures
and operate using compatible HTML coding to maximize the accessibility and
benefits of the material.
Internet society (ISOC):
A global company that focuses efforts on internet-related
standards and supports several smaller administrative bodies. It is the same as
the worldwide web in a way that both want the internet to flourish in a useful
way
NETWORK:
A system that consists of two or more linked computer devices and
can communicate with each other in a certain way. There are several different
network connections including:
· Home-area
Network (HAN)
· Local-area
Network (LAN)
· Wide-area
Network (WAN)
· Metropolitan-area
Network
Wireless networks use LAN connections via radio waves to connect
different devices and quickly cut wired connections because of the benefits
they hold.
WI-FI:
- It allows wireless connections between devices using certain
radio signals which allows access to the internet and other computers on the
network. However, the router must be connected to the internet to provide
internet access to the connected device. It is useful because it allows
internet access without any cables and can be taken as long as it is within the
wireless router environment.
